MCC Foundation awards 108 scholarships
Montcalm Community College and the MCC Foundation recently awarded 108 scholarships to 87 students valued at $59,975 for the 2010-2011 school year.
“Scholarships are one way in which the Foundation supports our learning community,” said MCC Director of Institutional Advancement Terry Smith. “Community support of MCC’s Foundation allows it to have a greater capacity to help students fund their college education.
“This is especially beneficial as our changing economy necessitates access to higher education,” Smith said.
Forty-eight $500 MCCF Beth Anderson Memorial Scholarships were awarded, totaling $24,000. Kathryn and John Anderson established the scholarship fund in memory of their daughter, Beth, who died of childhood leukemia. Her parents wanted to inspire and help other young people through scholarships, so a fund was established through the MCC Foundation. The Foundation established the MCCF Beth Anderson Charter/Home School, Current/Returning Student and New Student scholarships.
In addition, one $4,000 MCCF Stanley & Blanche Ash Scholarship was given, which covers tuition, fees and books for an in-district high school senior and is distributed evenly over two consecutive years.
One student also received a $3,000 MCCF Herbert N. Stoutenburg Scholarship, which was established in honor of MCC’s former president.
Other scholarships presented include the MCCF Travis L. Bingaman Memorial Scholarship; the MCCF William and Harriette Cook Scholarship; the MCCF Camille Widdifield Memorial Scholarship; the MCCF Doris M. Arntz Scholarship; two MCCF scholarships in recognition of Dr. Gordon DeVries and Dr. Thomas Deurloo; two MCCF Edward Reddig Scholarships; five MCCF Grace Sagendorf Scholarships; three MCCF Harold and Ruth Force Family Scholarships; the MCCF Mr. and Mrs. John Hathaway Scholarship; the MCCF Judy K. DeVolder-Nutt Scholarship; two MCCF Kenneth J. and Gail E. Lehman Scholarships; the MCCF Erin Kae Kitchenmaster Scholarship; three MCCF Louise D. Buescher Scholarships; the MCCF Manfred Doser Memorial Scholarship; two MCCF Mildred Farmer-Angwin Scholarships; the MCCF Nancy Fox Scholarship; the MCCF Ardene “Diz” Oswald Memorial Scholarship; 19 MCC Board of Trustees Scholarships; three MCCF MCC Employee Endowed Scholarships; two MCCF Donald C. Burns Presidential Scholarships; and two MCCF MCC-Educational Support Personnel Association Scholarships.
MCC Foundation supports learning projects
The Montcalm Community College Foundation is supporting a variety of learning projects at MCC.
The MCC Foundation Board of Directors recently awarded $7,854.60 to fund six institutional grants. The grants support teaching and learning and promote innovation at the college.
The 2010 grants are helping to fund the following:
Two nursing projects, including a Simulation Enhancement project, which will obtain a touch-screen mechanism for the simulation manikin, and the Personal Digital Assistant for Clinical Nursing Faculty project

Space Travel – The Final Frontier summer camp for youths

The institutional grants assist campus groups in reaching and expanding their academic objectives, said MCC Director of Institutional Advancement Terry Smith.
“The MCC Foundation was initiated with one major purpose – to support the college’s learning activities,” Smith said. “The institutional grants program is one significant way the foundation carries out its mission.”
The MCC Foundation initiated the grant program in 1984. Since then, the foundation has provided more than $136,000 to more than 100 projects. Visit
