Maintenance employee remembered for his commitment to MCC

Longtime Montcalm Community College Maintenance employee John “JC” Christiansen passed away on Sept. 22. He was 59.

Christiansen joined MCC’s custodial team in March 1977 and in 1989 moved to its maintenance staff. He intended to retire from the college this month.

“John took a tremendous amount of pride in his workmanship,” said MCC President Bob Ferrentino. “His No. 1 goal always related to the institution and to our students. He was extremely committed to MCC.

“We have lost a person who was always focused on what had to be done,” Ferrentino said. “We are saddened by his passing and express our deepest sympathy to his family and friends.”

A time of remembrance is planned at MCC at 11:45 a.m. on Sept. 25 around the flag poles in front of the Donald C. Burns Administration/Library  Building on the college’s Sidney campus.

Private family graveside services will take place at River Ridge Cemetery in Belding.

Memorials may be given to Carson Home Hospice or to the American Cancer Society.
