Four Montcalm Community College artists were honored during a luncheon on Oct. 25 as the winners of the inaugural MCC Create! art competition.
MCC Create! winners are, from left, Sue Moss, Debbie Bell and Katrina Soper. Not pictured is Susie Yoder.
Debbie Bell of East Grand Rapids and Sue Moss of Greenville tied for the Administrator’s Choice Award, and Katrina Soper of Edmore and Susie Yoder of Stanton won the People’s Choice Awards. Each of the artists received $500, and their artwork will be permanently displayed on the college’s Sidney campus.
“We’re all very pleased with the number of entries and the quality of the work,” said Dr. Gary L. Hauck, MCC Dean of Instruction and Faculty and cultural events coordinator. “I’m personally happy that we had a rich variety of art – paintings, drawings, photographs, ceramics, sculptures and tapestry. The winning entries will make a nice addition to the college’s collection.”
Inspired by Grand Rapids’ ArtPrize, “MCC Create!” features works of art created by MCC faculty, staff, students and alumni. In tune with the contest’s “Think Globally” theme, entries reflect the cultures, people and/or places of the world. All 27 entries will remain on display for public viewing through Nov. 9 in MCC’s Instruction North Building Art Gallery and in the Beatrice E. Doser Building south hallway.
In addition to the winners, other contributing artists include: Carolyn Johnson of Gowen; Claudia Nielsen, Sydney Hedrick and Billie Sanders, all of Greenville; Julia Blair of Ionia; Kyle Shattuck of Muir; BJ Leeuw of Sand Lake; Doreen Richmond of Sheridan; and Kathy Rasmussen and Grant Tiesner of Stanton.
