Tips
for Applying for Scholarships:
- Apply only if you are eligible.
Read scholarship requirements and directions to make sure you are eligible
before submitting your application.
- Fill out the application
completely. If a question does not apply, note it on the application
- Follow all directions being
sure to provide all required information. Provide everything that is
required but don't supply things that are not requested.
- Complete you application
neatly. Make photocopies of the scholarship application and other forms
you receive to use as working drafts. Always type the original application
information.
- Pay careful attention to
application deadlines. Plan to submit your application 5-10 days before
the application deadline.
- Make copies of your completed
application for your records. If there is a question about you submitted
application you will have a copy to refer to.
- If you are required to write
an essay, make sure it makes an impression. The key to writing a strong
essay is to be personal and specific. Include concrete details to make your
experience come alive: who, what, where and when.
- Give your application a final
check before submitting. Proofread the entire application carefully
to check to misspelled words and make sure your name, address, and social
security have been entered correctly.
- Don't hesitate to ask for
help if you need it. If you have a question about completing the application,
call the funding organization and ask them.
- Always keep in mind that
your scholarship application represents you! Your ability to submit
a neat, timely, complete application reflect on you.
