PERSONAL:
Born and raised in Bay City, Michigan, Greta pursued a teaching
degree in English at CMU. When given the opportunity to earn her
Master's and to teach Freshman Composition at the same time for
the university, Greta jumped at the chance to work with an adult
population. Graduating in 1995 with her M.A. in English, Language,
and Literature, she found herself as a new graduate in December
(a bad time to find a college position). She returned back to her
high school, Bay City Western, and became a long-term substitute
in English for her own high school English teacher. She attributes
her success with dual-enrolled students at MCC from her teaching
experience at WHS. Of course, at 24, it was a hard road to become
an instructor in higher education, so she needed to become an adjunct
instructor to gain experience. Juggling the adjunct circuit is a
wild experience, but it has made Greta versatile working at CMU,
SVSU, and Delta College all during the same year! Finally, in the
Fall of 1997, she left Michigan to become a full-time instructor
at Lincoln Trail College in Robinson, Illinois. No matter what,
the friendships made with colleagues there will last a life-time,
but in 2001, it was time to return home back to Michigan. Receiving
tenure in 2005, she has worked at MCC for almost five years, and
it's been a satisfying educational path.
Ask her what makes life special, and the answer is immediate--family.
Greta is married to a Norwegian named Tore, now working for Alma
College, and they have two daughters together, Emma and
Alison. They reside in Greenville and love it there.
