“START Strategies with Intentional Focus on De-escalation” (1 of 2)



A series of online education support workshops is being presented by the Montcalm Area Intermediate School District (MAISD) and MCC to provide professional learning for individuals working with at-risk students. Though they were designed with paraprofessionals in mind, they are relevant to teachers, volunteers, parents, and support  staff. Upcoming workshops include:

Nov. 9 and 16: “START Strategies with Intentional Focus on De-escalation” from 5 to 8 p.m. Taught live online by Amanda Foster. The cost is $10. One in 59 children are identified with an autism spectrum disorder. Participants will get a basic understanding of how autism impacts students. Participants will also learn evidence-based strategies to support students who have autism. These strategies are autism led but not autism specific. These evidence-based strategies will work with all students. Strategies that can reduce and de-escalate behavior will be the focus. Participants will leave with a toolbox of ideas to work with a variety of students.
