David Berry to coach bowling at MCC

David Berry has joined Montcalm Community College’s coaching staff and will lead the bowling team as the college works to bring back athletics after a 40-year hiatus.

Berry has coached high school bowling for three seasons at Grand Rapids West Catholic and is certified with the United States Bowling Congress.

“I wanted to coach at MCC because I have had a desire to be a college coach for a long time,” he said. “I was also a collegiate bowler myself. My hope is to instill a passion for the sport for the next generation of college bowlers.

“I am looking forward to the challenges it brings, I have been a high school coach for a little while now and am looking to grow and develop my own coaching skills,” he added.

In his spare time, he likes to bowl, spend time with his wife and four kids, watch college football, and spend as much time with God as he can. Along with coaching high school bowling, he works at a family-run drycleaning business and a liquor store. He is also currently pursuing his real estate license.

Berry went to Portland High School, as well as Saginaw Valley State University and Grand Rapids Community College.

He said his life is an open book, and that his wife says he’ll dip just about anything in ranch dressing.
