Kara Youngs has joined Montcalm Community College’s coaching staff and will lead the women’s volleyball team as the college works to bring back athletics after a 40-year hiatus.

An accomplished athlete and volleyball instructor, Youngs has coached volleyball at the high school level for several years.

“As a volleyball coach, I love to be involved in the game and to be able to instill my knowledge and passion for it to other athletes,” Youngs said. “I enjoy being able to be a part of their journey with volleyball.”

Youngs takes pride not only in teaching players the game, but also for what it can do for players after volleyball.

“Coaching is about teaching them teamwork, commitment, dedication and responsibilities they can take on throughout their lives,” Youngs said.

At MCC, Youngs said “players will be able to experience that next level of volleyball. They will be able to travel more and push their skills even further. They will be able to challenge themselves as a college student athlete and continue on with their volleyball careers past high school in a competitive environment.”

In 2008, Youngs was recruited for both volleyball and basketball at Concordia University Ann Arbor.

“That experience helped me understand the time and dedication it takes to be a college athlete. I valued my time and experience playing at that level and look forward to continuing that experience for youth players wanting to continue their journey after high school,” Youngs said.

Youngs is familiar with MCC and its programs through her involvement with AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) Volleyball, which uses MCC’s facilities.

“This area is home to me. To be able to bring my knowledge and experience of the game to this community is with great honor and pleasure,” said Youngs, who resides in Sheridan with her family.
