Montcalm Community College awarded 259 degrees and certificates May 7 during its 54th annual commencement ceremony.

Graduates and their families celebrated during a drive-thru event on MCC’s Sidney campus, during which they were congratulated by MCC President Stacy H. Young, Ph.D., and Vice President for Academic Affairs Rob Spohr.

Montcalm County 64B District Court Judge Adam Eggleston and student speaker Emily Mulnix addressed graduates via pre-recorded presentations, which may be viewed at montcalm.edu/commencement.

During his comments, Judge Eggleston told graduates they were achieving something he could not achieve – they were earning an MCC degree.

“Judge Eggleston, our graduates are not achieving something you could not achieve,” Spohr said. “I am pleased to present you with an Associate of Science and Arts degree today which you earned through your hard work at MCC. Through your coursework at the university level, we were able to transfer credits back to MCC to fulfill all of the requirements for this degree.”

In addition, Counselor Tore Skogseth received the Leslie K. Morford Faculty Recognition Award and part-time Instructor Brian Blomstrom received the Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award. Chemistry Instructor Scott Smith, who will retire June 30, was also recognized for his 22 years of service to the college.
