MCC honors employee for his dedicated service (1)

Montcalm Community College presented its Alden Perkins Dedicated Service Award to Christopher Barnes, of Stanwood, during the college’s Dec. 16 holiday celebration at Clifford Lake Inn.

Barnes joined MCC in March 2018, in maintenance and groundskeeping.

While announcing the award, MCC President Dr. Stacy H. Young said Barnes received glowing nominations from his co-workers.

“Chris is always there when he is needed. He is hard working and always very helpful,” Dr. Young said. “His work ethic is second to none. He truly cares about his workmanship no matter if he is painting, cleaning up leaves or any of the other many tasks he is asked to do.

“Chris cares, and this is demonstrated in how he talks and works with others,” she said. “It is obvious there is something special about Chris, because out of the four years of his employment at MCC, he has been a top contender for this award all four years. He has consistently been nominated, with comments such as “’great attitude,’ ‘polite and kind,’ ‘quiet and under the radar,’ ‘caring and pleasant,’ and ‘always the first to help out.’”

“Personally, in my work with Chris, he has always been positive and enthusiastic and truly enjoys his work and his co-workers,” Dr. Young said.

The award recognizes dedicated service to MCC, commitment to high standards of work performance, care and concern for the public and fellow employees, and creativity and innovation.  The MCC Board of Trustees initiated the award in 1986 as a posthumous tribute to Perkins, the college’s former Bursar.
