MCC offers a variety of noncredit classes in September

 

 Learn how to crochet, knit, perform CPR, self-defense, and more during MCC’s September noncredit courses.

“Make a Spending Plan Work for You” will provide tools on how to manage financial resources and important documents, achieve financial goals and increase financial stability. This class is on Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 12 noon to 1 p.m. and will be held virtually. The class is taught by Brenda Long, Senior Extension Educator with MSU Extension and is free, but pre-registration is required.   

Discover the origins, transmission, and story of the Judeo-Christian Bible, along with historical and traditional methods of interpretation and understanding its message in “What the Bible is All About.” This class is on Thursdays beginning Sept. 8 through Sept. 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The course is taught by Dr. Gary Hauck and the cost is $75. 

“FANUC Handling Tool Operation & Programming” will teach participants the tasks that an operator, technician, engineer or programmer needs to set up and program a FANUC Robotics Handling Tool Software Package. Learn to operate the teach pendant, navigate the controller software, power up and jog the robot and more. This class is on Fridays, Sept. 9 through Sept. 30, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The course is taught by Peter Murr and the cost is $1,300.  

“Beginning Crochet” will teach you how to do simple crochet while creating a cute scrubby dish cloth. Students will need to provide a J - 10 size crochet hook and a skein of Yarn Bee Scrub-Ology Scrub It Yarn. This class is on Saturdays, Sept. 10 and 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The class is taught by Mollie Hollar and the cost is $25.  

Learn to manipulate and combine materials into compositions that will prove to be both creative and unique in “Introduction to Mixed Media.” The class is on Mondays, Sept. 12 through Sept. 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. This class is taught by Sue Moss and is for those ages 16 and older. The cost is $44.  

“Mixed Media for Kids” will teach those ages 5 and older how to develop wonderful works of art by mixing together art mediums within a single composition. Students will be working on creating unique portraits, landscapes and still lifes using a variety of materials. The class is on Mondays, Sept. 12 through Sept. 26, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The class is taught by Sue Moss and the cost is $30.  

“Women’s Self-Defense – Basic” will teach participants ages 16 and older about being aware of your surroundings, being observant and avoiding dangerous situations. Women will learn hands-on techniques during the second meeting. They will include strikes to an attacker, escapes from being bound and ground self-defense. This class is on Sept. 12 and 13 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The course is taught by the Michigan State Police Lakeview Post and is free, but pre-registration is required.   

“Welding Art” is a combination beginning and intermediate level class where you’ll take your vision of a metal art object, whether it’s a wall hanging, a tabletop piece, a garden object or an abstract sculpture and convert it into a real, steel object. The class is on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 13 through Sept. 29 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $125. 

“Medicare Made Easy” will teach participants the ABCs and D of Medicare, and how to make the most of your Medicare benefits. No products will be sold here; it’s strictly educational. This class is appropriate for anyone who will be signing up for Medicare in the near future and their caregivers. This class is on Sept. 15 from 6 to 7 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The class is taught by Lori Williams and is free, but pre-registration is required. 

“Calming Computer Jitters for Seniors” is an introductory class designed to assist seniors in becoming more comfortable with social media, Zoom, word processing, emails, and general computer use. The class is on Fridays, Sept. 13 through Sept. 30 from 1 to 3 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville Campus. It is taught by Larry Moss and the cost is $35. 

“Mortgage 101” homeownership seminar from Michigan State University (MSU) Extension will provide you with valuable information about the home buying process and will teach you things like the advantages of home ownership, steps in the home buying process, the importance of good credit and more. This is a free online course taught by Brenda Long on Sept. 21 from 12 noon to 1 p.m., but pre-registration is required. 

“Heartsaver CPR AED” is an instructor-led course that teaches adult and child CPR and AED use, infant CPR and how to relieve choking in adults, children and infants. This course is taught by Jason Zamarron on Thursday, Sept. 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $65 and includes the cost of the book, mask and card. 

“Introduction to Knitting” will teach participants how to knit a pair of warm slippers using the knit and purl. The class is on Saturdays, Sept. 25 and Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The class is taught by Mollie Hollar and the cost is $25.  

“Retirement Myths and Facts” will clarify common retirement myths and provide resources for additional information. Topics include how many years to plan for retirement, social security benefits, health care costs and more. This is a free online course taught by Brenda Long on Sept. 28 from 12 noon to 1p.m., but pre-registration is required.
