MCC Volleyball Outlasts Alpena in 5 Sets

The Montcalm Community College volleyball team defeated Alpena Community College in a Michigan Community College Athletics Association (MCCAA) Northern Conference match up on Monday, Oct. 2. The Centurions defeated the Lumberjacks with scores of 23-25, 25-16, 25-9, 21-25, 15-4 

The Centurions were led by Freshman Piper Groesser, who recorded a career and match high, 15 kills while hitting .333. Lauren Rowe also matched her career best, 13 kills to help defeat the Lumberjacks. Setting up the offense was Freshman Tiana Whitacre who recorded a career high 43 assists and her fifth double-double of the season with 14 digs and 43 assists. Leading the way defensively was Freshman Libero Lily Bohen who picked up 25 digs. Freshman Middle Blocker Abbey Pohl recorded a team high of 3 blocks, while Tiana Whitacre, Piper Groesser and Alyssa Unger each picked up 3 service aces apiece. 

With the win, the Centurions improve to 7-8 overall and 3-4 in conference and are now in 5th place in the MCCAA Northern Conference.
