Golf Team Finishes 1st at Thomas Howard Memorial Golf Invitational

The golf team competed in their final invitational for the fall season and won the Thomas Howard Memorial Golf Invitational, hosted by Wayne County Community College District on Monday, Oct. 9.

"Conditions were tough. It was a cold and windy day, and our student-athletes just kept fighting," said Coach Doug Harkema.

The invitational consisted of six Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) teams: Montcalm Community College, Oakland Community College, St. Clair County Community College, Wayne County Community College District, Delta College and Schoolcraft College for a total of 33 golfers. The Centurions posted a team score of 323, where five golfers competed, and four scores counted for the team score. Zach Johnson finished 3rd shooting a 74, followed by Ethan Johnson 77, Jerald Brownell 83, Cashius Heiss 89 and Lucas Hirkaway 96.

Team captain, Ethan Johnson, credits the team for their success. "We won because our team was stronger mentally and we didn't let the weather conditions get to us. It was our first tournament with true fall conditions, and we battled through.”

The Centurions will look to build off their successful fall season and prepare for the spring season. The spring season is scheduled to kick off on Friday, April 5, 2024, at the Ancilla College Invitational. For up-to-date rosters, scores, schedules and results, visit
