MCC offers noncredit classes and summer camps in June

Learn about quilting, stained glass, watercolor painting and more during Montcalm Community College’s June noncredit courses.

Unleash your creativity with our engaging 60-minute class, On Edge Quilling, designed specifically for beginners eager to explore the art of paper quilling. In this hands-on workshop, you will discover the fascinating techniques of on edge quilling, a unique method that adds depth and dimension to your paper creations. By the end of the class, you will have created your own beautiful quilled piece to take home, along with the confidence to continue exploring this captivating art form. Materials needed for this class include a slotted quilling tool, small glue bottle, tweezer, scissors and quilling template. All other supplies will be provided. Michaels and Temu both sell the individual elements. The class will take place on June 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost of $35. 

In our stained-glass classes, students will learn how to: score and break glass, use a wet grinder, foil using copper foil, solder and finish off the window with cleaning techniques. Attendees of the Box Making Class will learn how to build a stained-glass box. This box could be used as a candle holder or pencil holder and it will be approximately 4”x4”. There will be prolonged standing and protective eyeware (provided) must be worn at all times. Please wear closed-toe shoes. This four-hour class begins at 5 p.m. on June 5 on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $55. 

Our Watercolors class is specially crafted for individuals aged 16 and older who are eager to explore the enchanting medium of watercolors, regardless of their prior experience. Learn how to mix and blend colors to create a harmonious palette that brings your paintings to life. Explore essential brush techniques and strokes that form the foundation of watercolor painting. Learn how to control the flow of water and create beautiful gradients and textures in your paintings. Materials required include: 140# cold press 11x14 watercolor paper pad, a pencil, blue painter’s tape, tube watercolor set or Prang watercolor set, two cups for water, a palette for mixing paint (an old dinner plate works well), paper towels, a small spray bottle, masking fluid, small, medium and large round brushes and a flat brush. This four-session class will meet weekly from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning on June 9 on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $60. 

In our You Pick stained glass class, students can pick one pattern and let their imagination fly. Patterns to choose from are: Dragonfly, Butterfly, Hummingbird, Monstera Leaf, or Heart with bevel center. There will be prolonged standing and protective eyeware (provided) must be worn at all times. Please wear closed-toe shoes. This four-hour class begins at 5 p.m. on June 16 on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $55. 

Join us for an evening of joyous singing and community spirit at our Community Midsummer Sing! This event is open to all ages and musical abilities, you don’t even have to be able to carry a tune; you just have to enjoy singing. We provide the songbooks, chairs, accompaniment and refreshments, you just come and sing. Words will be projected on a screen for those who prefer to “follow the bouncing ball.” If you like, you may bring any non-perishable foods for a donation to The Food Source pantry at MCC. This class will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 18 on MCC’s Greenville campus. This event is free, but registration is required.
