Montcalm Community College offers a variety of summer camps for youths of all ages.

Summer Camps Waiver 

 

A completed and signed waiver form is required for each person enrolled in MCC's 2022 summer camps.

 

MCC Summer Camps Scholarship Opportunity

 

The MCC Summer Camps Scholarship will pay 50% of the cost of up to three camps per child per year, and there is no limit on the number of children per family. This scholarship provides support to families experiencing financial hardship. Funds are provided by the Montcalm Community College Foundation.

Welding Camp #3 - Middle School

Greenville Campus

 

Youths entering 6th through 9th grades

The cost is $35. A signed waiver form is required for all camps.

 

Campers will learn welding safety before learning to stick, TIG and MIG weld. Each camper will complete a welding project.

LEGO® Pull Back Frenzy Camp

Children entering 1st through 3rd grades

Experience hands-on learning by creatively building and modifying race car machines through basic engineering skills using unique LEGO® kits.

LEGO® Space Challenge Camp

Greenville campus

 

Youths entering 6th through 8th grades

The cost is $59. A signed waiver form is required for all camps.

 

Campers will work as scientists and engineers using LEGO® MINDSTORMS®EV3 to immerse themselves in motivating STEM activities that prompt creative problem-solving, communication, and teamwork. They’ll work on the Challenge Mat, an engaging and motivating platform where they’ll creatively apply their STEM knowledge and expand their problem-solving skills as they develop their Space Challenge solutions.

MCC Pirate Island Art Camp

Ahoy Maties! Come dressed like a pirate and explore deserted islands, treasure chests, pirate ships and more! At MCC’s Pirate Island Art Camp adventure awaits. Young artists will have fun creating art with a pirate theme. Participants are encouraged to come dressed as a pirate.

Flipbook Animators Fine Arts Camp

Greenville campus

 

Children entering 3rd through 8th grade

Camp Director is Sue Moss. The cost is $35. A signed waiver form is required for all camps.

 

Do you love to draw? Does animation fascinate you? Artists will have the opportunity to make a simple lightbox, create and draw a simple flipbook and film the animated results. Students will also be introduced to free online software to create a flipbook digitally.

Dinner Theater Fine Arts Camp

Greenville campus

 

Children entering 3rd through 8th grade

Camp Director is Larry Moss. The cost is $35.  A signed waiver form is required for all camps.

Note: Dinner will be provided to participating students.

 

Do you like to act and perform? If so, Dinner Theater is just for you. Learn the basics of acting by going through the entire production and performance process. Using a workshop approach, students will learn and practice the basics of performance which include vocalization, blocking, stage movement, and production. At the end of the session students will break for dinner. Concluding this camp, students will invite their family and friends to a performance showcasing what they have learned.

Fishing Camp

Sidney Campus

 

Youths entering 5th through 9th grades

Camp Directors are Bill Bishop & Rob Spohr. The cost is $25. A signed waiver form is required for all camps.

 

This camp is designed for beginners who have had little to no exposure to fishing. Campers will learn about new lures as well as old favorites. Instruction will include color and lure selection, tying lures on, casting and presentation techniques. After learning how to fish, campers will compete in a mini fishing tournament for prizes (weather permitting). Flotation and equipment will be provided; however, campers are welcome to bring their own along.

Puppet Fine Arts Camp

Greenville campus

 

Children entering 3rd through 8th grade

Camp Director is Sue Moss. The cost is $35. A signed waiver form is required for all camps.

 

Learn the ins and outs of puppetry. In this camp, students will learn the art of hand puppetry with a special focus on blacklight presentation. Students will create a puppet and create a small performance for family and friends at the end of camp day.

Children are invited to explore the world of art around them. Through painting and nature crafts participants will have an opportunity to create amazing artwork.

Health Careers Camp

Sidney campus

 

Youths entering 8th through 12th grades

Camp Director is Danielle Anderson. The cost is $59. A signed waiver form is required for all camps.

 

Campers will experience first-hand challenges, opportunities, and rewards of health professions. Hands-on activities are facilitated by health profession students, instructors, and health care professionals. Diversity awareness and first-aid training will also be a part of the camp experience.

K'NEX® Robotics Building System

Greenville campus

 

Youths entering 6th through 10th grades

Campers will use the K'NEX® Education Robotics Building System to learn how to apply programming skills to operate various K'NEX models. Campers will design and build fully functioning models, write computer programs and use the Robotics Programming Software to communicate with and operate the models to solve Challenge Activities.

LEGO® WeDo 2.0 Maker

Greenville campus

 

Children entering 3rd through 5th grades

LEGO® WeDo 2.0 Maker camp will engage and motivate elementary school students, piquing their interest in learning design, engineering, and coding using motorized models and simple programming. Lessons provide an initial starting point with open-ended prompts allowing for unlimited answers and enabling students to express a wide range of creative solutions as they sketch, build, and test prototypes of the designs they create. Maker design topics include dancing robot, life hack, and sound machine.

Taking the Next Adventure into 3D Printing and CAD Camp

Greenville campus

 

Youths entering 5th through 10th grades

Camp Directors are Norm Denny and David Nelson. The cost is $59. A signed waiver form is required for all camps.

 

Explore the world of Computer Aided Design (CAD). Create something from nothing by learning to design on a computer and have it come to life using a 3D printer. We will go from exploring CAD in the classroom to seeing how CAD is used today in the workplace with a visit to Greenville Tool and Die.

Campers will use the K'NEX® Education Intro to Simple Machines: Levers & Pulleys set, to be introduced to the scientific concepts associated with two types of Simple Machines – levers and pulleys. Campers are provided with the opportunity to acquire skills using a hands-on, inquiry-based approach to information and concepts.

Sprocket gears, spur gears, rack-and-pinion and more. Campers will use the K'NEX® Education Gears set as an introduction to the scientific concepts associated with gears. Campers are provided with the opportunity to acquire skills using a hands-on, inquiry-based approach to information and concepts as they build, investigate, discuss, and evaluate scientific principles in action.

LEGO® Simple Machines Maker

Greenville campus

 

Children entering 3rd through 5th grades

LEGO® Simple Machines Maker camp will teach campers how to follow a design process. Campers will work in small groups to define the problem, brainstorm, and identify a design criterion before making a solution. All creations will be presented teaching campers the importance of communication and feedback. Maker design topics include a digital accessory, mascot, cartoon, amusement park ride, and many more.

LEGO® Engineering Lab

Greenville campus

 

Youths entering 6th through 8th grades

The cost is $59. A signed waiver form is required for all camps.

 

Campers will work as physicists and engineers, carrying out experiments to investigate phenomena, principles, and concepts involved in physical science and technology using LEGO® MINDSTORMS®EV3. Working in pairs, they’ll go through a series of lessons that use hands-on experiments to explore gear ratios, friction, and gravity. The unit concludes with an open-ended challenge, which provides an opportunity for students to apply their newly acquired skills and knowledge in creative ways.

Montcalm County Youth Law Enforcement Camp

Sidney campus

 

Youths entering 6th through 8th grades

Camp Director is Steven Schutter, Michigan State Police. The cost is $20. A signed waiver form is required for all camps.

 

Middle school youths will learn about the field of criminal justice. They will be given hands-on activities related to law enforcement and will also learn about other components of the criminal justice field, including corrections and the court system. This class will combine classroom instruction with hands-on activities Students should dress appropriately for physical activity.
