Montcalm Community College offers a variety of summer camps for youths of all ages. Registration for MCC’s 2019 summer camps is now open. A completed and signed Summer Camps Registration/Waiver form is required for each person enrolled in a 2019 MCC Summer Camp.

June 17-21, 2019

design & 3d printingThis camp is for youths entering 5th through 7th grades. The Camp Directors are Norm Denny and David Nelson. The cost is $55. Lunch and snack are included.  

Explore the world of Computer Aided Design (CAD). Create something from nothing by learning to design on a computer and have it come to life using a 3D printer. We will go from exploring CAD in the classroom to seeing how CAD is used today in the workplace with a visit to Greenville Tool and Die.

Art is Everywhere: Color BlastThis camp is for children ages 4 through 8 years old. The Camp Director is Sue Moss. The cost is $15 per session.  Lunch is included. Limit of 12 artists.

Does your young artist love to paint? At Color Blast, our artists will have the opportunity to explore all the colors of the rainbow.

Students creatively construct and modify buildings, applying basic engineering principles and using unique LEGO® kits. This is an integrated science and math class.

Campers will use the K'NEX® Education Intro to Simple Machines: Levers & Pulleys set, to be introduced to the scientific concepts associated with two types of Simple Machines – levers and pulleys. Campers are provided with the opportunity to acquire skills using a hands-on, inquiry-based approach to information and concepts.

Sprocket gears, spur gears, rack-and-pinion and more. Campers will use the K'NEX® Education Gears set as an introduction to the scientific concepts associated with gears. Campers are provided with the opportunity to acquire skills using a hands-on, inquiry-based approach to information and concepts as they build, investigate, discuss and evaluate scientific principles in action.

robotics building systemThis camp is for youths entering 7th through 10th grades. The Camp Director is David Kohn. The cost is $55. Lunch and snack are included.   

Campers will use the K'NEX® Education Robotics Building System to learn how to apply programming skills to operate various K'NEX models. Campers will design and build fully functioning models, write computer programs and use the Robotics Programming Software to communicate with and operate the models to solve Challenge Activities.

Pinch, roll, coil, stretch and more during clay play. Artists will have fun creating amazing pieces using Air Dry Clay.

Forces, Energy & MotionThis camp is for youths entering 6th through 8th grades. The Camp Director is Deborah Dawson-Gunther. The cost is $35. Lunch and snack are included.  

Campers will use the K'NEX® Education Forces, Energy & Motion set that has been designed for students to investigate a variety of concepts related to forces, energy and motion. These concepts are fashioned around rigorous STEM content and national standards in science, technology, engineering and math. As campers engage in the activities, they will be learning, practicing and applying integrated process skills. Campers will be expected to craft fair test procedures, create meaningful data displays, make reasonable and data supported reports and analyze their collected data in light of the problem at hand.

Ag camp: Exploring Agriculture – IQ HubThis camp is for children kindergarten through 5th grades. The Camp Director is Michelle Gibson. The cost is $25 per child; $40 for two children from the same family; $50 for three children from the same family. Parents/guardians can attend with their children at the same rates. Registration is capped at 40 participants.

Campers will learn about agriculture via a trip to IQ Hub, an interactive Ag-Science museum in St. Johns. The bus will leave MCC’s Sidney campus at 8:30 a.m. Campers will visit IQ Hub from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Lunch will be at a park near IQ Hub at 1 p.m. Campers will return to MCC’s Sidney campus by 2:15 p.m. where a summary will take place. Campers will swim from 2:45 to 4 p.m.

MCC’s Family Art CampThis camp is for children entering Kindergarten through 8th grades AND a parent, grandparent or guardian. Children are required to have an adult in attendance with them; older siblings are also welcome. The Camp Director is Seth Sutton. Pre-registration is required. The cost is $35 for up to three family members and $10 for each additional family member. Lunch and T-shirts are included for all participants; please provide shirt sizes at registration.

If you answered YES to any of these questions, then Montcalm Community College has just the activity for you! Join our Digital Arts team at the beautiful Sidney campus for two days of fun-in-the-sun, art-filled activities that will be sure to bring a smile to your face and leave you with memories that you can hang on your refrigerator.

 

 

 

Explore the world around you on a stroll through the beautiful Kenneth J. Lehman Nature Trails. Take photographs and make art with the sun. This camp is a great opportunity to spend time with your child, grandchild and older/younger siblings. This camp is for those who are looking for some creative family time to explore nature and have fun with art. Art supplies will be provided. Attendees are encouraged to bring a camera (point and shoot and cell phones are fine), sunscreen, bug spray, water and the willingness to have fun! MCC’s pool will be open for swimming, so bring a towel and swimsuit.

montcalm county youth law enforcement campThis camp is for youths entering 6th through 8th grades. The Camp Director is Kevin Sweeney, Michigan State Police. The cost is $20. All registrants will receive a T-shirt, water bottle and lunch.Middle school youths will learn about the field of criminal justice. They will be given hands-on activities related to law enforcement and will also learn about other components of the criminal justice field, including corrections and the court system. This class will combine classroom instruction with hands-on activities, including time in the MCC pool, gymnasium and outdoors. Students should dress appropriately for physical activity and water activities. Hands-on activities are facilitated by health profession students, instructors and health care professionals. Diversity awareness and first-aid training will also be a part of the camp experience.

Outdoor Exploration CampThis camp is for children entering Kindergarten through 8th grades. 
Camp Director is Marc Battreall. The cost is $25. Lunch and a snack are provided, but participants must bring a can of soup for a cooking activity.

Campers will learn the art of safe outdoor exploration. Discover the wonders of nature and camping. Campers will explore trails, identify trees and plants, pitch a tent and learn how to prepare for a camping adventure. Bring a can of soup for a cooking activity. Dress accordingly for the weather.

Campers will use the K'NEX® Education Exploring Machines set, which is designed to expand middle school students' conceptual knowledge of simple machines. Topics include levers, pulleys, wheels, axles and gears. Students investigate, explore and experiment with the K'NEX® simple machine models as they analyze, synthesize and evaluate information.
