In this influential and thought-provoking book, Alexander argues that the U.S. criminal justice system—particularly through policies associated with the War on Drugs—has created a modern system of racial control that disproportionately affects Black Americans, resulting in lasting barriers to employment, housing, voting rights, and other opportunities long after incarceration ends.
