Despite inclement weather, the Montcalm Community College men’s and women’s bowling teams held their third annual Montcalm Community College Invitational at the Greenville Hot Spot Friday, Feb. 6.

The women’s team finished third out of five teams at the tournament with a team score of 3,388. Kellogg Community College led the pack with a final team score of 3,683. The Centurions fell behind in the combined individual games and found it hard to come back in the baker block portion of the competition.

Sophomore Madyson Hartman (St. Louis, Mich.) led the Centurions with a three-game series of 513 after bowling games of 189, 165 and 159. Hartman’s game of 189 was the fifth highest individual game among the bowlers in attendance and she finished second overall for highest series, falling just short of Sydney Nichols of Jackson College (544). Freshman Amaya Farr (Greenville, Mich.) was second on the Centurions individually, bowling a series of 467 (135, 160, 172).

The Centurions’ men’s team finished fourth out of five teams at the competition with a final team score of 3,809. Jackson College led the way for the men’s tournament with a final score of 4,250. After placing second among the pack in the first combined individual game (944), the Centurions quickly fell behind with back-to-back games with scores of 789 while Jackson’s scores were approaching the 1,000 mark.

Sophomore Bradon Krohn (Fruitport, Mich.) led the Centurions with a series of 600 — third best in the competition — after bowling games of 217, 165 and 218. Sophomore Joey Gonzalez (Greenville, Mich.) finished just behind Krohn with a series of 593 after bowling games of 224, 192 and 177. Gonzalez’s 224 was tied with Brice Sandoval of Jackson College for the highest score of the day.

The Centurions will be back on the lanes Friday, Feb. 13 at 9 a.m. for the MCCAA Conference Championship Tournament, hosted at Merri-bowl Lanes in Livonia.
