The Business Professionals of America Academic Team at MCC had another outstanding showing at the National Leadership Conference, which took place May 5-10 in Nashville, Tennessee.
The conference hosted more than 5,300 students in middle school, high school and collegiate competitions throughout the week, and three of MCC’s four students in attendance earned placements in their disciplines.
Aimee Friesen of Sheridan stood out as the top participant in the competitions, placing third in Payroll Accounting, third in Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications and in the top 10 in College Accounting. Jazmin Posadas of Middleton also placed in the top 10 for both Payroll Accounting and Financial Math & Analysis Concepts. Rounding out the top finishers was Tim Moffit of Belding, who placed in the top 10 for Parliamentary Procedure Concepts.
In addition to the competitions, two MCC students took part in a series of leadership opportunities held at the conference. Petra Mark of Lakeview earned a certificate for completion of the Leadership Passport Series. A multifaceted seminar spanning the entirety of the conference, this series of workshops focused on building real-world skills including strengthening your personal brand, sharpening professional skills and preparing for the career of your choice. Moffit also attended a leadership academy — a workshop which brought together motivated BPA members from across the country for a full day of interactive learning, meaningful conversations and real-world leadership.
The students were accompanied by BPA Co-Advisors Bill Bishop and Kristen Diehl, who were elated to see the students make the most of the opportunities in front of them at the conference.
“We’re incredibly proud of how our students showed up and competed on the national stage,” Bishop said. “They not only delivered strong results across multiple events but also took full advantage of leadership opportunities that will carry with them into their careers. It was a great experience all around and a true reflection of their hard work.”
