Montcalm Community College and the MCC Foundation recently awarded $275,574 in scholarships and aid for the 2026-2027 academic year.
More than 230 students received awards to support their pursuit of degrees and certificates at MCC.
“Supporting student success is at the heart of the MCC Foundation’s work,” said Lisa Lund, Executive Director of the MCC Foundation. “Scholarships help remove barriers to education and create opportunities for students to stay focused on achieving their academic and career aspirations.”
The MCCF celebrated its scholarship recipients during the MCCF Scholarship Celebration Dinner on Sept. 15 on the college’s Sidney campus, sponsored by Sidney State Bank.
The celebratory dinner was headlined by the appearance of guest speaker and MCC Alumna, Annette Fare. Fare, a former student-athlete who was an inaugural member of MCC's cross country team, began her speech by giving special thanks to Jim and Janet Seaman, who sponsored Fare's first MCC scholarship as a student.
"Three years ago, I had the opportunity to sit with them for the first time and hear why they are here," Fare said. "Their devotion to the community is one of my greatest inspirations. Thank you, Jim and Janet, for continuing to support and encourage me. Without that first scholarship, I wouldn’t have aspired and achieved my goals. Many of the scholarships on this night are being given out in honor of or in memory of people who have made a difference. These scholarships ensure their contribution to society will not be forgotten."
Fare drew on the theme of the night, which was "Aspire and Achieve," motivating the scholarship recipients with her own story and encouragement to strive for more with this given opportunity.
"For the traditional students, allow MCC to be the foundation of your career," Fare said. "Use the resources available to you and give yourself grace. Do a little homework planning but don’t forget to have fun along the way. For the nontraditional students, allow MCC to be the turning point in your life. You came here for a reason. You inspire many with your determination and perseverance. You’ve got this."
