Dr. Scott Koenigsknecht, Superintendent of Clinton County RESA, and Montcalm Community College student Libby Berry, will address graduates and their guests during MCC’s 59th Annual Commencement Ceremony on May 1.
The ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. in the gymnasium in the Activities Building on the college’s Sidney campus. Doors will open at 3:30 p.m.
Dr. Koenigsknecht brings more than 30 years of experience in education, including 25 years as a superintendent. He began his leadership career in Fowler in 2001 and has since served Montcalm Area ISD, Ingham ISD, and the Michigan Department of Education, where he led statewide initiatives in special education, career and technical education, and early childhood. In 2023, he returned to his home county to serve as Superintendent of Clinton County RESA.
Known as “Dr. K.,” he holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from Central Michigan University. Throughout his career, he has played a key role in shaping education policy and practice in Michigan, contributing to major initiatives in special education reform, early childhood planning, and student support systems. He has also served on numerous state boards and advisory councils and remains actively involved in advancing equitable educational opportunities.
Libby Berry began her higher education journey through dual enrollment at MCC in 2023. After completing her high school requirements early, she transitioned to full-time studies in 2025. Since then, Berry has maintained high honors while balancing her coursework with personal responsibilities. She values growth and resilience and is grateful for the support of her instructors, peers, and community throughout her time at MCC.
During Commencement, Berry will earn her Associate degree in Science and Art. She plans to obtain her Daily Substitute Permit and pursue her passion for teaching in a way that supports both her professional aspirations and her long-term goal of building a family. A dedicated community leader, Berry is a four-time poetry slam winner and an active volunteer within her church and local outreach programs. Her journey is defined by a passion for service and a love for the arts – talents she has expressed as a member of her youth group’s band, as a competitive short story writer, and through dance and visual art.
In addition to recognizing the college’s candidates for degrees and certificates during the ceremony, the Leslie K. Morford Faculty Recognition Award and Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award will be announced.
Those who are unable to attend in-person may watch live on Facebook and YouTube. Visit montcalm.edu/events for more information and links to watch online. Two food trucks will also be available for graduates and their friends and family to enjoy outside at the end of the ceremony.
