Enjoy food, drinks and free admission to a home volleyball game at Montcalm Community College during our annual Fall Open House Oct. 12. 

The open house runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on MCC’s Sidney campus. Students and their families will check in near the recreation desk inside the Activities Building. From there, students are welcome to tour the campus at their leisure or request a tour from one of our staff members. 

Select faculty will be available to promote their programs and share what it’s like to be a student at MCC. Presentations regarding academic programs, advising, financial aid, student life, and housing will also take place at 5:30 and 6 p.m. 

"This event is designed to help students envision themselves at MCC,” said MCC Admissions Representative Taryn Muilenburg. “They'll have the chance to learn about admissions and transfer opportunities, connect with faculty and staff, and get answers to the questions that matter most as they plan for their future." 

Students and their families can enjoy free pizza and refreshments while enjoying the beautiful fall foliage around the campus. The October date aligns with College Month, when many students and families are actively exploring educational opportunities and mapping out their plans for the year ahead. 

"One of the advantages of College Month is that students can take advantage of free or discounted application fees offered by many institutions," Muilenburg said. "It's a great time to ask questions, compare options and start building a plan for what's next after high school." 

The Fall Open House is being held in conjunction with the MCC volleyball team's home match against Great Lakes Christian College, which also serves as High School Invite Night. All open house attendees will receive free admission to the match, which begins at 6:30 p.m. In addition to cheering on the Centurions, attendees can participate in a between-set serving competition for a chance to win an MCC T-shirt. Muilenburg said pairing the open house with a home athletic event provides prospective students and their families with an opportunity to experience another side of campus life. 

"Athletics are just one part of the student experience, but they offer a great example of the connections and engagement students can find at MCC," Muilenburg said. "We want prospective students to see themselves here, both inside and outside the classroom." 

While the event offers a glimpse into student life, Muilenburg said the broader goal is to help prospective students understand the opportunities available to them at MCC. 

"The open house is about helping people see what's possible," Muilenburg said. "Visitors will have the opportunity to explore programs, meet the people who will support their success and experience our campus firsthand. We want every attendee to leave knowing that a college education is within reach and that MCC can help them get there."
