Montcalm Community College was made aware of a recent data security incident involving Canvas, the learning management system used for coursework and communication at MCC.

At this time, we have been informed that unauthorized access may have exposed certain user information associated with Canvas accounts. Instructure, the vendor that provides the Canvas learning management system, has informed MCC that they have found no evidence that MCC accounts were compromised. However, the investigation is ongoing, and Canvas is working to determine the scope and impact of the incident.

Information that may have been affected could include:

• Name 

• School email address 

• Course enrollment information 

• Other account-related data stored within Canvas 

At this time, MCC’s Information and Technology Services Department has temporarily removed access to Canvas while our teams investigate and take steps to protect our systems and data.

Our institution is actively working with Canvas to assess any potential impact and provide updates as more information becomes available.
