Guidelines & Responsibilities
In order to receive VA Educational Benefits, you must be pursuing a degree or certificate program that has been approved by the VA. The Veterans Certifying Official, located in Student Services in the upper level of the Donald C. Burns Administration/Library Building on the college’s Sidney campus, can tell you if the program you are interested in is approved by the VA.
The Veterans Certifying Official will open a file for you and complete an Enrollment Certification form to activate your benefits, once you provide a copy of your DD-214 and Certificate of Eligibility AND request to utilize veteran educational benefits.
To obtain a copy of your DD-214, go to https://www.va.gov/records/get-military-service-records/
After applying for Educational Benefits, please contact the MCC Veteran’s Office in the upper level of the Donald C. Burns Administration/Library Building on the college’s Sidney campus. Please note: The Certifying Official in the MCC Veterans Office does not determine your eligibility for benefits. Your eligibility for benefits is determined by the Veterans Affairs Office when you apply online. This takes up to 30 days to process. Tuition and fees are due to MCC as outlined in the tuition payment schedule, regardless of when students will receive their benefits check. The Veterans Certifying Official will open a file for you and complete an Enrollment Certification form to activate your benefits, once you provide a copy of your DD-214 and Certificate of Eligibility AND an MCC request for utilization of Veteran Education Benefit.
Individuals may register only for courses required to satisfy graduation requirements for specified majors.
Please provide the Financial Aid Office a signed Request to utilize Veteran Educational Benefits.
VA payment is not allowed for repeating a previously passed course.
Any changes in program of study, course load, address, etc., must be reported to MCC’s Financial Aid Office.
Students receiving VA educational benefits who withdraw from a class may have to repay the money received for the class unless the withdrawal was due to circumstances beyond the student’s control. Please contact the Financial Aid Office if you have extenuating circumstances.
MCC is recognized at the highest level as a veterans-friendly school by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency, an organization that strives to connect veterans to benefits and resources.
